Why AI engines can’t name a site they can’t read
ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews answer from pages their crawlers fetched. If robots.txt disallows OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, or a bot-protection setting answers them with 403 or a challenge page, your pages never reach the answer, however good they are.
GPTBot and Google-Extended are different: they collect training data. Blocking them keeps your content out of future models but does not stop search answers from citing you. The checker shows both, so you can decide.
