Grok
Grok visibility tracking for agencies
Grok visibility tracking is the third consumer surface in the weekly check. Agencies include it because engines disagree: a brand can look fine in ChatGPT and vanish on Grok without any ranking change. CiteBrief records named, recommended, and who won on the same buyer questions.

What visibility on Grok means
Grok is the xAI assistant people open when they already live on X. Visibility means Grok named the client on an unbranded buyer question. It does not mean a tweet was indexed. It does not mean you “optimized for Grok.” It means that answer, that day, did or did not include the brand.
Why monitor it
You monitor Grok for the same reason you monitor Gemini: the client will try a second app. If Grok crowns a rival the other engines ignored, that is a competitive finding, not noise. Skipping Grok to save a column is how you get surprised on a sales call.
What CiteBrief tracks
Grok is included on Pro and Business weekly checks with ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews. Free is a site check only. Soft-fail: if four of the five engines return, the check still completes.
| In the Grok row | Client-safe language |
|---|---|
| Named yes/no | Named on this buyer question |
| Recommended yes/no | Grok told the buyer to use them |
| Who won | The brand Grok put on the shortlist |
| Cited URL when present | A source, not a dump of the answer |
What the report shows
Grok is not a special section with different jargon. It is a column. The cover still leads with named in X of N across the scored set. Per-question rows show where Grok diverged. Five actions stay in plain English. See the sample report.
Missing mentions
If Grok omits the client and names an incumbent, treat it like any other miss: who won, which question, one action. Do not write “Grok algorithm” into the PDF. Client-safe reports never say GEO, AEO, LLM, or embeddings.
Competitors
Keep the competitor list tight. Grok often surfaces different voices than Gemini. Log the winner. Do not add every @mention as a tracked brand. AI search competitor analysis is the method.
After the brief
- Flag Grok-only losses that sit on high-intent comparison questions.
- Decide if the fix is a page, a listing, or earned media Grok might cite.
- Leave the question set stable so next week's check is comparable.
Workflow
PR teams care when Grok names a rival in a category question — that is a third-party mention problem. SEO teams care when Grok and AI Overviews split. Send one PDF. For PR agencies and for SEO agencies.
Pro is $99/mo for 3 brands checked weekly; client-ready white-label PDFs are the Agency add-on ($49/mo).
FAQ
Is Grok required?
On Pro and Business, Grok is one of five engines. If Grok fails and the other four return, the check completes and Grok is marked failed, never filled with a made-up answer.
Does CiteBrief track X / Twitter instead?
No. Grok answers on buyer questions. This is not social listening.
Should the PDF explain what Grok is?
One line is enough: another assistant buyers use. Do not teach the CMO xAI.
Can we drop Grok to save cost?
There is no Grok add-on SKU. Paid plans include the four public engines. See pricing.
See Grok in the per-engine table on the sample weekly report.
