How to report ChatGPT visibility to clients

How to report ChatGPT visibility to clients: ask the questions a buyer would type, score only unbranded prompts, show who won, and send five actions. Account managers use this playbook when the client asks “are we in ChatGPT?” and you refuse to share your screen.

Page 1 of the sample weekly report: named score and buyer-question rows.

Clients do not want a tutorial on language models. They want to know if a buyer who asks ChatGPT for a vendor will hear their name. Report it like this.

Step 1 — Pick questions a buyer would type

Write 15–25 prompts in the client’s category. Include competitors by name. Do not include the client name on the scored set.

  • Best {category} for {buyer} in {market}
  • {Competitor} vs {Competitor} for {job}
  • Who should I hire to {job}
  • I am unhappy with {Competitor}. What are my options?

Step 2 — Run the same questions on more than ChatGPT

Clients say “ChatGPT” and then paste the question into Gemini. Show ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, and AI Overviews in one table so you are not surprised on the call.

EngineWhy it is in the brief
ChatGPTThe name clients use
GeminiThey paste the same question here next
GrokAnother consumer surface; engines disagree
AI OverviewsGoogle is still in the room

Step 3 — Score only unbranded prompts

Headline: Named in X of N. Recommended in Y of N. Branded “what is {Client}” goes in the appendix.

Step 4 — Name the winner

Every missed question needs a “who won.” That is the line that makes the report commercial. “Invisible” without a rival is a vibe.

Step 5 — Five actions, not a strategy novel

One comparison page. One source to earn. One listing fix. One sales note. One thing to stop doing (usually branded vanity prompts).

Step 6 — Say what this is not

Put this sentence in the footer of every send:

These figures are answers from AI assistants on {date} in {market}. They are not Google rankings and should not be added to Search Console totals.

Step 7 — Send a file, not a tour

PDF or a private link. No “let me share my screen.” If they want depth, the AM can walk the appendix. Use the AI search report template if you are building the letter by hand.

Cadence

  • First month: one brief so they learn the object.
  • After that: Friday or month-end with the rest of reporting.
  • Do not promise daily ChatGPT screenshots.

What to say on the call (script)

We asked the questions your buyers ask. You were named in X of N on ChatGPT this period, Y across the other assistants. {Rival} is winning {question}. Next: {action} in ten days. We will show the same table next period.

Stop talking.

FAQ

They want traffic from ChatGPT.

Say you will report mentions and citations. Referral reporting is a separate analytics job.

They want to be in every answer.

Show engine disagreement. No one is in every answer.

They want it in the SEO deck.

Add one page. Do not merge the scores with rankings or Search Console.

How is this different from a mention table?

This is the playbook. The ChatGPT mention report for clients is the artifact. The AI visibility report for agencies is what to package on the retainer.
